Philip Seward


PHILIP SEWARD is an award-winning composer of musicals, art songs, choral works, operas and instrumental works. American productions include the operas The Rose Prologues, Les Dames à trois…et piano, How To Date A Coloratura, High Fidelity and Spreading The News; and the musicals: Hans Brinker, Nobody Likes Retsina, Sincerely Yours and Juan Peron’s Hand. Lyric Opera of Chicago commissioned the youth operas Stone Soup, A Noteworthy Tale, and African Stories presented in Chicago, and other American cities. The Lira Ensemble commissioned works including Blessing which premiered live on WFMT Radio and Sonnet, for chorus and orchestra premiering at Chicago’s Symphony Center. An alumnus of the Midwest New Musicals Writers Workshop, Philip is a Senior Lecturer at Columbia College Chicago and heads the Music Lab at in conjunction with the Academy for New Music Theatre in Los Angeles. Mr. Seward’s choral music is published by Porfiri & Horvath.
